Weather News

Snow likely this weekend, foggy start on Saturday

Wet roads will re-freeze overnight leading to icy conditions in many locations west of the divide Saturday morning. In addition, fog will re-develop in many of our western valleys and could be dense at time through the early morning hours. Lows will be limited to the teens and 20s with clouds, fog, and additional moisture in the region, although a few higher elevation areas such as Butte will dip into the single digits. FREEZING FOG ADVISORY for the Missoula, Bitterroot, and Swan valleys along with the lower Clark Fork.

Light snow will begin falling in the region Saturday afternoon with minimal accumulations. Expect snow to progress southwest to northeast, hitting Salmon, Dillon, and the Bitterroot Valley first followed by Butte and Missoula. Kalispell and Bozeman will have their chance for snow by early evening. Highs will be in the 20s and 30s.

More snow is likely on Sunday with the possibility of some heavier accumulations Sunday evening. Highs will hit the 20s and low 30s.

Monday could be the most impactful day in the week ahead as more snow comes up from the south into southwest Montana starting Monday morning. Accumulating snowfall up to 4 inches between Sunday night and the end of Monday will cause travel disruption around Butte, Bozeman, and the Bitterroot Valley. Stay with us through the weekend for updates on this system.

The rest of next week looks to be fairly calm with slightly below average temperatures and chilly mornings in the single digits above and below zero.
