Weather News

Windy and wet weather continues Tuesday

Gusty winds are impacting travel in southwest Montana while rain and snow are causing slippery roads at times west of the divide. Expect showers to continue tracking north and let up a big overnight while winds will be a little calmer by Tuesday morning. Lows will be in the mid to low 30s with isolated spots in the upper 20s.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY through Tuesday for Monida Pass, Raynolds Pass, Targhee Pass, and West Yellowstone. Snow Accumulations of 2 to 5 inches will be possible.

Other passes such as Lost Trail, Lolo, Lookout, and Marias will see 3 to 6 inches through early Wednesday. other passes in the area will see light accumulations.

WIND ADVISORY for dangerous crosswinds along I-90 from Livingston to Big Timber. Wind gusts could top 60 mph. High winds will blast across southwest Montana again on Tuesday with wind-prone areas such as Ennis seeing gusts over 50 mph while much of the region will see gusts over 40 mph. Places such as Bozeman and along the Missouri River will experience lesser wind gusts.

Another round of rain and snow will arrive Tuesday.  A period of snowfall in the morning is again possible for areas west of the divide before a change to rain or a wintry mix in the afternoon; very similar to Monday. Highs will reach the 40s. We are tracking a cold front that will change rain to all snow by Wednesday morning. Valley snow accumulations will be minor, with a dusting to an inch or so possible in most areas and between 1 inch and 3 or 4 inches in parts of Northwest Montana by Wednesday morning.

For the rest of the week expect scattered snow showers and colder temperatures. Highs through next weekend will only get up to around freezing with lows in the teens and single digits above zero. In other words, it will start feeling like winter again.
