Fire weather returns to the forecast

RED FLAG WARNING noon to 8 pm Sunday for the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Salmon-Challis National Forests including the towns of Salmon, Butte, Dillon, Ennis, Philipsburg, and surrounding communities. Fires could grow out of control quickly in these conditions: humidity values as low as 6 percent and 30 to 40 mph wind gusts.

After a hot start to the weekend, Sunday will be a bit cooler as a weak system moves through the area. Highs will only reach the mid to upper 80s with far southwest Montana near 90. Storm chances increase slightly for Bozeman, West Yellowstone, and Dillon on Sunday. Expect windy weather Sunday afternoon with more choppy lakes and gusts in the 30 mph range.

Another system next Tuesday and Wednesday will keep temperatures on the cool side, with Kalispell and Butte only reaching the upper 70s on Wednesday. High winds will likely appear again as the system enters the region. However, there is very little rain expected with this event. By the end of next week temperatures will recover to around 90 in the afternoon.
