Weather News

Rain returning tonight, thundershowers possible Sunday

After a beautiful and sunny Earth Day a wet weather pattern will return for the rest of the weekend and all of next week.

Showers will cross the Idaho state line Saturday evening with more widespread showers by early Sunday morning, mainly around Missoula and Butte. By the afternoon scattered showers will develop, and some may become strong enough to produce very small hail, lightning, and wind gusts up to 30 mph. These storms are most likely to develop around Salmon, Butte, Dillon, and Bozeman. Further north, Kalispell will miss much of the daytime showers, and any showers that develop there should be fairly weak. Missoula will see most of its rain during the morning with a few showers here and there late. Temperatures will be cooler than Saturday, with highs in the mid 50s and morning lows mild in the upper 30s and low 40s.

As colder air sweeps in Sunday night snow levels will drop to as low as 4000 feet. Most areas in southwest Montana will have a chance for some slushy snow accumulation Monday morning of and inch or less. Slushy conditions on area passes such as Monida, Homestake, Lost Trail, and Bozeman are likely.

Cool weather with valley rain or a mix and mountain snow will continue through the week. Temperatures will remain below average with some locations strugging to hit 50 degrees by Wednesday. Any breaks in shower activity look to be brief until the start of next weekend.
