Weather News

Warm temperatures and isolated showers Sunday

After a sunny Saturday the temperatures will really begin to rise in the days ahead.  We'll wake up to lows in the 40s with isolated upper 30s Sunday morning under mostly clear skies. By the afternoon a weak wave of moisture moving through central and eastern Montana may have enough in it to kick up a few showers in the region during the afternoon. Any showers that do form will be weak with chances of thunder and lightning being very low. Shower coverage will be low, with most developing showers remaining in the mountains and backcountry. Highs in the afternoon will reach the low to mid 70s in southwest Montana with low 80s further west as you get lower in elevation.

Memorial Day itself should be clear and calm.  Highs will rise to the upper 70s and mid 80s Monday with even warmer conditions after that. Many areas will be in the mid to even possibly upper 80s by Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday remain set up well for a few thunderstorms ahead of a system out of the northwest. Temperatures will cool to the 60s and low 70s as the parent storm system moves overhead next weekend.

Make sure to add sunscreen to your routine if you area out on this long weekend. UV index values will be at high to very high, which means sunburn begins after 15 to 30 minutes outdoors. Rivers will be running fast and full this weekend and they will be quite chilly as much of the larger flow will be from melting snow. Several rivers may reach flood stage again late next week because of the warm weather.
