Children's Educational Objectives

In compliance with the Children’s Television regulations that became effective January 2, 1997, the programs listed below each have educational objectives that are central to the program content and appropriate to a specific age group.  In addition, each of these programs features an E/I on-air icon indicating that the program is “educational and informational” for children.  This icon is displayed at the beginning of each broadcast.  Also, in compliance with the regulations, documentation to support this is available in the stations’ public inspection file.  It may be viewed during normal business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5:30PM. KECI-TV is located at 340 West Main, Missoula, Montana. KCFW is located at 401 First Avenue East, Kalispell, Montana. KTVM’s offices are at 201 South Wallace, Suite A-5 in Bozeman and 750 Dewey Boulevard in Butte, Montana.

8-8:30AM TURBO DOGS Targets children ages 4-8
Adapted from the series of popular children's books by Bob Kolar, "Turbo Dogs" is a new 3D animated series set in Racerville, a town filled with dogs that are wild about racing. Each week, the canines encounter situations that require them to think through the "rules of the road"-issues that challenge the racers (and the television audience) to work hard, believe in themselves, play fair, and respect and get along with others.

8:30-9AM SHELLDON Targets children ages 4-8
This vibrant and amusing animated series follows the adventures of Shelldon, a Yoka Star Shell, and his lively sea-creature friends on their underwater exploits. Set in the idyllic coral reef community called Shell Land, SHELLDON'S inhabitants include: "Herman" the Hermit crab, "Connie" the Cowry shell, Shelldon's adopted family of Fluted Giant Clams, including his young twin siblings, "Click" and "Clack" and a host of other colorful sea characters.

9-9:30AM 3-2-1 PENGUINS! Targets children ages 4-8
"3-2-1 Penguins!" is a fun-filled animated adventure from the producers of the award-winning Veggie Tales series. "3-2-1 Penguins!" tells the story of two young kids (Jason and Michelle) and four out-of-this-world penguins, as they explore the galaxy - and learn important lessons and values along the way.

9:30-10AM BABAR Targets children ages 4-8
"Babar" is an animated series based on the classic books by Jean and Laurent de Brunhoff. The heartwarming stories and artwork have gained worldwide popularity and have been beloved by fans for 75 years. "Babar" is about a young orphaned elephant that goes to live in the big city to learn about the ways of people. He finds the strength to rise above numerous challenges and returns to the jungle where he builds the city of Celesteville and is crowned king of the elephants. Each episode communicates social-emotional messages.

10-10:30AM WILLA’S WILD LIFE Targets children ages 4-8
"Willa's Wild Life" is an enchanting series about a little girl's unique home life that is sure to keep you in stitches and warm your heart. Willa's Wild Life follows the adventures of Willa, an unforgettable little girl who finds herself in comic predicaments. But thanks to her loving and patient father, and her entire extended family of personality rich zoo animals, Willa manages to overcome her obstacles, learn a little something, and have a great time along the way.

10:30-11AM JANE & THE DRAGON Targets children ages 4-8
"Jane and the Dragon" is an animated comedy-adventure series, co-produced by Nelvana and developed by the leading design team from Weta Workshop ("Lord of the Rings," "King Kong"), which follows the comedic exploits of a 13-year-old girl in medieval times. "Jane and the Dragon" is based on the popular book series by Martin Banyton. As an only child, Jane was raised to be a lady-in-waiting, but through her determination and a stroke of luck, she ends up being trained as a knight in the King's Guard instead.

11-11:30AM TEEN KIDS NEWS Targets children ages 13-16
This weekly newscast is provided by and for kids. It is delivered in a manner that is compelling as well as highly entertaining. The focus of the program is young people, allowing them to tell the stories in their own words. The large, diverse news team is made up of child “journalists” reporting from a professional news set and from the field on stories of interest and with educational value to the show’s young audience. This program serves to make a real difference in the lives of its audience, inserting the clear voice of the child into an adult-dominated media, providing a unique perspective to the news.

11:30AM-12PM SAVED BY THE BELL Targets children ages 13-16
“Saved by the Bell” features six enterprising, adventurous teenage students with inventive schemes and mischievous dreams. The series follows the teens throughout their fun-filled days at school and their antic-filled nights at their favorite hangout. Told from the kids’ point of view, “Saved by the Bell” presents conflicts and challenges that the teenage years inevitably deliver. Typically, the stories also provide a socio-emotional message based on important core values.
