We're only a couple months away from August now and that means we're that much closer to fall football camp for the Montana Grizzlies.
This week one of the players to watch is already making watch-list headlines.
Junior Zach Wagenmann has been placed on the watch list for the College Football Performance Awards as a defensive end.
He is one of 38 players across the country vying for the top defensive end and defensive tackle awards.
"It's obviously a sought-after and prestigious award list to be on," said Wagenmann. "It's nice to get the recognition for that.
The Missoula Sentinel graduate had an outstanding season last year with 11.5 sacks and 50 total tackles. He was a 1st team all Big Sky selection for Montana.
Former Grizzly star Trumaine Johnson earned CFPA honors back in 2011. Last season, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel earned the 2012 CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy. Harvard quarterback Colton Chapple earned the 2012 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy.
"Yeah just to be mentioned in the company of some of those names is very humbling," said Wagenmann. "It's just a reminder that football season is coming up soon and that gets me more excited than anything just to get ready for fall camp and get ready for the season."
