MISSOULA, Mont. -

The Legion baseball season wrapped things up this past weekend with the conclusion of the Montana state tournaments; And while no western Montana teams took home a state title, this week there are plenty of local players that nabbed all-state honors.

Starting in class 'AA' play the state tourney runner-up Missoula Mavericks were of well represented with three players selected, in fact the Billings Scarlets were the only other ‘AA’ team to have as many.

Missoula’s Slade Heggen was an easy choice at catcher for the Mavericks. In just his second year of 'AA' baseball, Heggen hit .441 and led the team with 113 hits, 12 triples, 43 walks and 27 stolen bases.  Heggen is entering his senior year at Loyola high school and has already verbally committed to the University of Oregon baseball program for college.

Also from Loyola, Missoula first baseman Shane Olson was named all-state.  Olson hit .426 on the year and led the team with 22 doubles and 91 RBIs.  Olson had two of his six home runs at the state tournament in Billings.

Also making the cut was Mavericks outfielder Josh Meader who is entering his senior year at Big Sky high school.  Meader played in 65 games and hit .341 at the plate with 55 RBIs.  Meader also hit a grand slam at the state tournament against the Billings Scarlets last week.

"It was awesome.  At first I really couldn't believe it,” said Meader.  “I mean it was a surprise to me but I just feel honored and it feels great.  Slade and Shane are really good players and I had a feeling they would definitely make it but I'm honestly surprised I did, it feels great though.  It's awesome for the Mavs I think."

Plenty of local Class ‘A’ players also made the list.  The Western Conference regular season champs Mission Valley had Nick Crawford and Jeremiah Crawford both make the cut.  Libby’s Jared Winslon was also honored, while Tyler Thorson and catcher Kadin Beller both made the list from the Bitterroot Bucs.
