MISSOULA, Mont. - The University of Montana certainly has a very talented mascot, and yet again Monte is getting national recognition for his talents as the grizzly bear mascot in Missoula.
Once again Monte has been chosen for the Capital One Mascot of the Year Competition. This is the 6th time that Monte has made the cut and earned a spot on the mascot challenge team. Joining him on the team are fifteen other mascots from around the country. All of these mascots will compete to earn the title of National Mascot of the Year.
The competition will consist of a 12 week regular season where each mascot will go head-to-head with another mascot. At the end of the week the mascot with the most votes wins that match up. After the 12 weeks is up the eight mascots with the best win-loss records will then be seeded into the playoffs. Of course Monte is no stranger to success in these competitions, he won the title of National Mascot of the Year in both 2002 and 2004. His hard work is recognized throughout the Garden City by Griz fans as well as the players.
"He's awesome he gets the crowd going, everyone loves him the kids want to see him the parents even do, he just does a great job," said Griz defensive end Zack Wagenmann.
Monte is going up against Cam the Ram from Colorado State University.
