Two MSU Students Prepare for College National Finals Rodeo Showdown

Rodeo fans must pick their sides this week, North or South as to who has the finest rodeo competitors in the U.S. MSU senior Kevin Peterson will lead his team to the College National Finals Rodeo which opens this Sunday and he believes the North will again prevail.

"It's kind of interesting to see how the northern schools with Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho, compete against the south which everyone says is the heart of rodeo country with Texas and Oklahoma," Kevin said. "And I've been to the college finals a couple of times and we compete right with them and take home our fair share of championships."

Kevin has been training at the Circle L Ranch with freshman Cierra Camp, who is new to the rivalry but she thinks the North will certainly be ready.

"The boys have a really good team," said Cierra. "The girls are going down with a really young team but we also have a lot of potential going down."

Being one of the youngest on the team, Cierra is ready to show off that potential and all that she's worked for in her first season

"It's really exciting to be able to go down my freshman year," she said. "Especially in two events and I have put in a lot of time and worked really hard. It's definitely a blessing to be able to go down there."

As one college career is just beginning, another is coming to an end and Kevin is certainly hoping for a little luck this coming week.

"A lot of it does depend on the draw and if you draw the right cattle," he said with a smile. "We've put ourselves in a position to compete and we're gonna do the best we can."

For as to who's the best in the North South rivalry, I asked these two if they think the North will come out victorious.

"I'm a little biased, so I'm gonna say, yes!" said Kevin followed by a laugh.

"Nothing to lose and everything to gain," said Cierra.

We'll find out next weekend who reigns supreme at the College National Finals Rodeo.
