MISSOULA, Mont. - The Montana State women's basketball team won the Big Sky Conference Tournament on Saturday with a 62-56 victory over Idaho State in the championship game.
The Bobcats fell behind 12-2 in the opening moments but rallied back to lead by four points at halftime and eventually record the six-point victory.
"I'm just so happy for these ladies for the amount of work and the dogfight every day," said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. "When you're the defending Big Sky champions, to get everybody's best game every night and to respond to that, it's a huge challenge. I thought they continued to rise to that challenge."
MSU senior Peyton Ferris paced the offense with a team-high 23 points. Fellow senior Riley Nordgaard added 16 points and 10 rebounds.
"Everyone had to step up and be a part of it to get us to survive every game. It's a great experience because so many people were involved with it and now we get to carry this through forever."
The win punches the Bobcats' ticket to the 2017 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. It will mark the team's first appearance since 1993.
Montana State also set a program record with 25 wins this season.
