MISSOULA, Mont. - The Lady Griz basketball team picked up a big win Saturday afternoon as they beat Eastern Washington 76-51.
The Lady Griz were looking to get payback from earlier in the year when they came up short to the Eagles 58-56. It was a different story this time around, Montana entered the contest as the top team in the Big Sky conference standings, and they played like it.
The Lady Griz had a big first half, they shot 63 percent from the floor. Katie Baker had a game 22 points, she shot 67 percent from the field. Montana jumped out to an early lead in the first half and they never looked back. It was a solid defensive performance from the Lady Griz, they held Eastern Washington to just 36 percent shooting from the field, and only 12 percent from beyond the arc. The Eagles largest lead in the game was by one point only a minute into the first half of play. As for Montana, they had a 30 point lead with 5 minutes to play in the game.
With the win the Lady Griz are now 16-5 overall, and they are 10-2 in conference play. Even better for Montana, the Montana State Bobcats lost their third straight game as they fell to Portland State 75-72 Saturday afternoon. With the loss by MSU and the win by the Lady Griz, Montana now has a two game lead in the Big Sky standings.
The Lady Griz have now won their last five games and they will look to make it six in a row. Montana will now be back on the road for their next two games starting with Northern Colorado this Thursday, Feb. 7, followed by another road game Saturday, Feb. 9 at North Dakota.
