Lady Griz roll past Hornets 74-53

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Lady Griz basketball team had no problem getting a win in their semifinal match-up against Sacramento State, Montana cruised past the Hornets getting the win 74-53.

It was a one sided first half with Montana controlling the tempo of the game, the Lady Griz went into the half with a 44-25 lead. Montana shot the ball well in the first half, hitting 44 percent of their shots from the field. The Lady Griz also had the upper hand from beyond the arc, Montana hit six three-point field goals shooting 50 percent from deep range.

On the other side of the ball Sacramento Sate was able to stay somewhat in the game thanks to their three point shooting. The Hornets were just 9-34 from the field but they hit 5-11 shots from three point range.

The Lady Griz had a 19 point lead at the start of the second half and they went up by as many as 26 points with 8:57 left in the game. An even more impressive stat for Montana, they never once trailed the Hornets at any point in the game.

Senior forward Katie Baker led the way for Montana scoring a game high 17 points to go along with 8 rebounds. The Lady Griz dominated Sacramento Sate on the boards, Montana had the 58-34 advantage rebounding the ball.

The bench was another key factor for the Lady Griz, Montana's bench outscored the Hornets bench 33-8. It was a solid performance from the Lady Griz who lost their final conference game of the regular season to Sacramento State less than a week ago.

Friday's semifinal win puts the Lady Griz into Saturday's championship game where they will face Northern Colorado. Montana and Northern Colorado split their season series this year with each team winning at home and losing on the road. Saturday's championship game will start at 2:00 p.m. Inside Dahlberg Arena.
