MISSOULA, Mont. - After two state championships in high school, three final four appearances for Stanford, and a short stint this summer with the Seattle Storm in the WNBA, Missoula native Joslyn Tinkle is taking another big step forward in her basketball career.
The recent Stanford graduate has signed with Uni-Gyor, a EuroLeague team in Hungary.
"I'm very excited," said Tinkle earlier this month about preparing for her first season overseas. "Definitely a little nervous but looking forward to it. Packing up my winter clothes, I haven't had a winter since Missoula so I've been spoiled in California. Looking forward to it!"
The EuroLeague is the highest level of basketball women can reach overseas. Tinkle will be playing teams from all over the region such as Russia and Austria; she will be playing against household WNBA names such as Sue Bird, Candace Parker and Diana Taurasi.
Uni Gyor as a team is overcoming a tragic accident from earlier this fall when the team's bus crashed, killing the head coach and team manager while seriously injuring several other players.
As part of the team's challenge to rebuild, Uni Gyor reached out and signed Tinkle as well as former Gonzaga star Courtney Vandersloot.
"They thought of me and that's kind of how I fell into this team," said Tinkle. "Very unfamiliar with the country but I think it's a really good situation. We're playing against great players and tough competition so I'm looking forward to just getting better and getting to play."
Tinkle arrived in Gyor, Hungary safely on Monday evening and immediately practiced with the team. The team's first game of the season will be at home on Thursday, November 7th.
