Griz get second conference win beating UC Davis 42-7

The Montana Grizzly football team won their second straight conference game Saturday night by beating UC Davis 42-7 on the road.

Montana had another productive game running the ball, the Griz had 51 carries for just over 250 yards to go along with four touchdowns. Jordan Canada was the only back to run for over 100 yards for UM, he had 21 carries for 126 yards and two touchdowns. On the first play of the fourth quarter Canada ran the ball into what appeared to be a broken play. But just as Canada was swallowed up by the defense he reversed to the opposite side of the field and scored from 24 yards out giving Montana a 35-7 lead.

Quarterback Jordan Johnson had another efficient game passing. Johnson completed 12 of 20 passes for 163 yards to go along with his two passing touchdowns. Johnson also went another game without throwing an interception, he now has 16 passing touchdowns and zero interceptions on the season.

Both of Johnson's touchdowns were caught by receiver Ellis Henderson. The first score was a 30 yard reception in the first quarter giving UM an early 7-0 lead. Henderson's second score was in the second quarter from 21 yards out which gave Montana a 21-0 advantage over UC Davis. Henderson finished the game with three catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns. The Grizzly offense finished the game with just over 400 yards of total offense.

Montana played an all around clean game, the Grizzlies never committed a penalty and they never turned the ball over. The Griz defense also forced two turnovers both were interceptions. Montana's defense held UC Davis to 237 yards of total offense, 126 yards passing and 111 rushing.

The victory improved Montana to 2-1 in the Big Sky Conference and 5-1 overall. The Griz will return to Missoula where they will host Cal Poly Saturday, Oct. 19.
