Braves football looking to bounce back this year

Braves football looking to bounce back in 2013

MISSOULA, Mont. - After finishing last season with just one win the Flathead Braves have nowhere to go but up this season, and they're focusing on taking it one game at a time.

"We talk about the big picture," said Flathead head coach Russell McCarvel. "Early on when we first meet and then really after that our goal is to go 1-0 every week. We certainly want to be playing in the playoffs and see what happens from there."

"Well we're going to want to have a winning season of course," said Flathead linebacker Caleb McCracken. "Other than that it's just play sound football."

Flathead will kick off the season against Great Falls High, a team they lost to last year. But the Braves say its been a great off season and they're ready to show what they're made of this year.

"I'm looking forward to it," said Flathead guard Axel Bladholm. "We almost beat them last year and I think we have a better team this year so I feel pretty good about our chances for a victory."

"I think this is one of the most physical years that we've had." said McCracken. "We're coming together well and working as a team well we really want to win so I think that's helped us out a lot."

"You know our goal is to beat the Great Falls High Bison an excellent team with a great coaching staff." said McCarvel.

The Braves have high expectations heading in to week one, but they know if they want to start out the season 1-0 they have to do the little things.

"Well it sounds like a cliche but we're going to have to make sure we run the ball well stop the run and take care of the football. Said McCarvel. "The first game we've got to make sure we don't have silly penalty's, that we're lined up correctly guys are doing their correct assignments. Great Falls is a great football community so it's going to be a lot of fun to go there."

The Braves and Bison will face off Friday at 7:30.
