MISSOULA, Mont. - Sentinel's Sam Beighle was selected as all-state class AA player last season averaging over 16 points and six rebounds per game.
Earlier this month the Spartan senior signed his national letter of intent to continue playing for Carroll College next year.
"It was a relief because it was stressful for me," said Beighle. "I had a lot of schools putting deadlines on it and pressuring me a lot. It wasn't like I just wanted to get it over with. I was more excited than relieved but yeah it was a good feeling."
The Carroll men's team won the Frontier Conference last season and has complied a 4-2 record at NAIA nationals over the past two years. Beighle says a great program that close to home was tough to pass up.
"A lot of things went into it. Probably number one was being close to Missoula; I love Montana and I wanted to stay here. It's a pretty elite program, especially for the Frontier Conference. They won it last year, they're always in the national tournament and I really like the coach. And the academics at the school are phenomenal so it seemed to be a perfect fit."
Beighle has competed been on the Sentinel varsity team since he was a freshman. This season he's excited to finish his Spartans career playing alongside his senior class.
"All of my friends, I mean I haven't played with most of them since before high school so I'm excited to play with them. Even though I haven't played with them for quite a while we have team chemistry and we all get along. We hang out outside of basketball and outside of school. We're all really excited."
The Spartans open their season this Friday night hosting Stevensville.
