The Grizzlies gave preseason favorite Weber State a great game but fell just short 68-63 to the Wildcats Saturday night inside the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah.
The game was tight until the end. Weber State took a 52-50 lead with 8:20 left in the contest and the Wildcats would hold the lead for the rest of the night. The game was cut down to 62-58 on a Jordan Gregory three with 1:40 left to play and then again to just a four point different (67-63) via a Kareem Jamar trey with 18 seconds left on the clock, but that’s as close as things got down the stretch for Montana.
Jamar finished with a team-high 20 points for Montana (3-5 BCS/8-9 overall) while junior forward Mike Weisner added a career-high 17 points off the bench.
Weber State (10-6, 7-1) was led by Davion Berry’s game-high 22 points. Joel Bolomboy grabbed a career high 19 rebounds en route to a double-double (12 points).
The loss drops Montana down to 9th place in the Big Sky with a league record of 3-5. Weber State remains atop the standings in a first place tie with Northern Colorado at 7-1.
The Grizzlies will play the third contest of their 4-game road trip next Thursday at Southern Utah.
