MISSOULA, Mont. -

Grizzly quarterback Jordan Johnson has been named to the 2014 Walter Payton Award Watch List as announced by The Sports Network on Monday.

The Payton award is given out annually to the top offensive player in FCS football and is the biggest honor an FCS offensive athlete can receive.

Johnson is one of nine quarterbacks to make the watch list alongside six running backs, four wide receivers and one tight end.

As a senior this fall, Johnson will be the starting quarterback for his third season. He currently holds an overall record of 20-6 and is tied for sixth most career victories made in school history with Craig Ochs.

Last season Johnson threw for 3,387 yards and had 32 touchdowns to only five interceptions. He was ranked ninth in the country in pass efficiency for FCS football and ranked 21st in the nation for overall offense.

Montana’s only Payton award winner is former Griz quarterback Dave Dickenson. He received the honor in 1995 and set numerous UM records.
