MISSOULA, Mont. -

The Griz battled the Vikings on the road Saturday night in Portland, but in the end UM lost a heartbreaking 81-78 triple overtime finish.

It was a back and forth game, PSU went into the half with a one point advantage. But in the second half of the game this Griz outscored the Vikings 26-25 to tie the game at 57 forcing overtime.

In the first overtime both teams scored five points each, but neither team was able to hold on to the lead and the game went to a second overtime. It was the same result in the second overtime, both teams scored 10 points and again the game went to another overtime.

In the third overtime the Griz took a two point lead on a jumper by Jordan Gregory, but after that Portland State's Gary Winston took over. Winston scored all nine of the Viking's points in the third overtime, including two three-point shots. Montana had one last chance to tie the game but Kareem Jamar missed on a three-pointer that would have forced a fourth overtime.

With the loss the Griz are now 1-3 in league play, and 6-7 overall. The Griz will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 16, when they host North Dakota inside Dahlberg Arena.
