Mavs ready for season opening game
The Legion baseball season is right around the corner and the Missoula Mavericks are anticipating their season opening game.
"It's exciting, mainly because the whole team is kind of coming back so we should be pretty good" said junior Slade Heggen.
"I think everybody is pretty excited at least I know I have been looking forward to the season for a long time and talking to all these guys out here I feel like they all feel the same way" said senior Tres Cunningham.
The Mavs return most of their starters from last year's team and with the younger guys stepping up they are expecting to put together another solid year.
"They step up pretty good and we have a lot of young kids just like last year that are going to step up and we have a lot of high expectations for us this year" said Cunningham.
"I'm excited to watch these guys kind of experience as i did last year for my first double a season i mean its going to be cool to watch these guys develop as players to because they are going to learn a lot" said Heggen.
Last season the Mavs finished as co-conference champs and made it to the state tournament where they took third place after losing to the Billings Scarlets by one run, this year's team expects to get back to state.
"We have pretty much the whole team coming back so just like every year our goal is to be in that state championship game and hopefully you know get a win" said Cunningham.
The Missoula Mavericks are gunning for their second state title in four years after winning it back in 2010, they open up their season at home April 14th against Great Falls.
