Continuing our high school football previews, we go to Kalispell where the Flathead Braves are hard at work preparing for another season.
One bright spot for the braves is returning quarterback Matt Tokarz. Last season Tokarz had over 2,500 all purpose yards on the season as a junior. He ran for over 900 yards on the ground and threw for 1,600 yards through the air.
But Flathead finished the year with a 4-7 record despite their offensive success.
This year the team will focus on improving their defense which surrendered an average of 36 points per game a year ago. Even though the team lost over 30 seniors from last year's squad, they still expect to put together a good campaign in 2012.
"I'm really impressed with the numbers we had i was a little iffy about how many people would come out but looking out here we have quite the group of seniors and I'm really happy about that and their all working hard getting everyone up and being leaders out here" said quarterback Matt Tokarz.
Head coach Russell Mccarvel says even with a new group of seniors stepping up this year he expects the team to play at a high level.
"Well we have high expectations I mean every week we play were looking to go 1-0 that week absolutely were looking to win every single game no doubt about it. How it ends up on the scoreboard we don't know, but our expectations are always high."
The Braves will take on Billings Senior for their home opener Friday August 24th at Legends Stadium.
