Dillon's Wes Knox says he plans to walk on at the University of Montana.
Knox made the announcement on his facebook page, writing, "Finally made up my mind. made the commit today to play basketball for the Montana Grizzlies. Excited and blessed to have this opportunity and look forward to the future. Go Griz!"
Knox says it wasn't Montana's prestigious basketball reputation that attracted him. He tells NBC Montana it was the academics.
"Well, actually, I chose the University of Montana for the school, not the basketball program," Knox said over the phone. "My parents and I talked about it a lot. We decided it was more important to choose a place where you go based on the academic purposes other than athletic. If basketball works out too, then that's great and it did. So, it's kind of the best of both worlds."
Knox was a key part of the Beavers' run to the Class state title this year. The 6'4" guard averaged 13 points and over four boards per game his senior season.
