HELENA, Mont. -

Former state Sen. Ryan Zinke of Whitefish says he is running for Montana's U.S. House seat.
Zinke (ZINC'-ee) made his announcement Monday before supporters in Billings. A video of the announcement was posted on his website, www.ryanzinke.com.
Zinke says people have lost faith in a federal government that has grown too large and is drowning in debt. He pledged to move the nation toward energy independence and restore the personal and economic freedoms he says the current government has taken away.
Zinke is a Republican and a retired Navy SEAL who lost a 2012 bid for lieutenant governor.
He joins a growing field of Republican candidates who expect current U.S. Rep Steve Daines to run for the retiring Max Baucus' Senate seat.
