The Montana Highway Patrol says a woman was killed and at least three other people were injured in a series of crashes on Interstate 15 near Sunburst.
Alkali dust driven by strong winds created whiteout conditions Monday afternoon leading to four crashes involving nine vehicles, including an ambulance, a school van and three semi-trailers.
Trooper Mike Jensen tells the Great Falls Tribune the woman was killed when she slowed or stopped after one semi had struck another and a third semi rear-ended her vehicle while traveling about 50 mph. The woman's name has not been released.
An ambulance was rear-ended by a van driven by Sunburst's assistant golf coach. Superintendent Tim Tharp says none of the students were injured.
The crash is still being investigated.
