BONNER, Mont. -

Crews moved fast to get a handle on a fire northeast of Bonner near the old Stimson mill site.

Flames burned through about five acres. Crews called in a hot shot team and three choppers.

Officials are warning folks to stay away from the Blackfoot River near Bonner -- that's where choppers are dipping water.

So far, they've got it under control, and crews told us it's because they hit hard and fast.

"Once fires start, how easy are they to control?" said Cindy Super, a fire prevention coordinator with the DNRC. "If it was a couple of weeks from now, we might not have caught a fire like this, so that's what we are looking at. It's the energy release component -- what's the potential for that fire to grow -- and they also look at the response and how many crews we have available."
