Kalispell, Mont. -

The 55th annual Winter Carnival is set to kick off in Whitefish Saturday night, with a traditional performance called the Merry Maker.

The outrageous and sometimes inappropriate skit will be held at the Moose Lodge in Whitefish.  More than 150 tickets have been sold for the event that officially marks the start of winter carnival, a celebration that includes activities almost every weekend from now until February 9.

Saturday's Merry Maker is primarily a roast of local politicians and community figures in Whitefish and carnival officials are keeping quiet about what we might expect to see.

"Part of the secrecy is that we're unveiling the duchess and the prime minister that night. Perhaps another part of the secrecy is that, you know, we'll poke some fun at some people attending." Said Paul Johansen, chairman of the carnival’s board of directors.
