A 60-year-old Whitefish man is dead after the Corvette he was driving crashed into a group of trees.
Montana Highway Patrol says the crash happened west of the intersection of East Edgewood Drive and Haskill Basin Road. They are not sure what time the accident happened, but believe it was between 9 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Thursday. Officers were dispatched to the scene just before 11 p.m.
MHP said the Corvette was traveling at a high rate of speed, westbound on East Edgewood Drive and continued straight through a sharp left curve. The driver went off the road and slammed into some trees. No tire marks are visible on the roadway to indicate the driver was braking.
The driver was wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Officers say speed was a factor but they are investigating if alcohol was involved.
