Toole County officials have released the name of a 55-year-old Shelby woman who died in a crash on Interstate 15 just south of Sunburst as area residents seek a solution for the blowing alkali dust the caused the crash.
The coroner's office says 55-year-old Laura Jo McKamey died Monday afternoon when her car was rear-ended by a semi-trailer as she slowed or stopped due to the limited visibility.
McKamey's death has renewed calls to mitigate the threat of future dust storms along the nearly mile-long stretch of interstate. The land is owned by the Department of the Interior and managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
County Commissioner Allan Underdahl says a meeting is scheduled Thursday to discuss possible solutions. Commissioners also plan to meet with a BLM representative.
