University system still negotiating pay
LEWIS AND CLARK COUNTY
The pay raises proposed for state employees over the next two years don't apply to employees of the Montana University System.
Kevin McRae is associate commissioner of higher education for communications and human services. He tells Lee Newspapers of Montana that the state didn't fund the university enough to match the 3 percent raise proposed for state employees this July and the 5 percent raise proposed for November 2014.
McRae says they were given half the money requested for a 5 percent raise in each of the next two years for the system's 4,000 employees. And an in-state tuition freeze means they can't raise any additional money that way.
McRae says the university system is in the collective bargaining process with 25 bargaining units.
