The University of Montana has chosen a site on East Broadway Street for the location of its new Missoula College building.
UM President Royce Engstrom announced Wednesday that the new building will be constructed across the Clark Fork River from the main campus. Part of his decision was based on the proximity to the mountain campus.
"Proximity was important. The East Broadway site is about as close as you can get without being on the main campus," Engstrom said.
The 2013 Legislature appropriated $29 million for the building. UM is required to raise another $3 million. Plans call for a multi-story building with parking and bicycle spaces.
"We are fully aware of the importance of parking and traffic and so we will make sure we accommodate what we have to do there," Engstrom said.
No timeline has been laid out for when to start construction. Engstrom said the next step is to get a design plan for the site though they hope to have something started sometime in 2014.
