UM janitor accidentally shoots self in foot
A janitor at the University of Montana faces two misdemeanor charges after accidentally shooting himself in the foot while handling one of two guns he apparently kept in a janitorial closet.
The Montana Kaimin reports janitor Josiah Pratt was cited for disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon after the shooting Wednesday night at the UM Law School building.
Law school associate dean Greg Munro notified students about the shooting by email Thursday morning.
Munro's email told students that Pratt had a semi-automatic .45 caliber pistol, a .357 pistol and a knife in one of the janitors' closets.
University policy says only law enforcement officers and federal authorities are allowed to carry loaded firearms on campus.
UM's Office of Public Safety issued the citations, which will be heard in Municipal Court.
