The following is a press release sent out by the Bozeman Police Department:
On Thursday, August 29, 2013, at approximately 4:15 PM a 9 year old boy was contacted by a male in a passenger vehicle at the intersection of S. Willson & W. College St. while riding his bicycle.
As the child rode by, the male reportedly stopped his vehicle and stated, “hey kid…come here…do you want to go with me.” At no time during the contact did the driver exit the car or try to grab the boy. The 9 year old left the area immediately and went directly to a place of safety and reported the incident to a trusted adult.
The Bozeman Police Department and our School Resource Officers are working together with the Bozeman School District in investigating this incident thoroughly. Yesterday’s incident is a reminder for the public and community members to take the opportunity to discuss this incident with your children and develop preventative measures as parents to make children and the community aware of potential dangers and the appropriate actions.
We want to emphasize that the actions taken by this young man are exactly what he should have done. He recognized the possible danger of the encounter and immediately to a safe place to report the incident.
The vehicle involved was an older model, white sedan with the male described as being a white male, 40-50 years old, with short dark hair. If anyone has information regarding this specific approach, we urge you to call the Bozeman Police Department.
