BOZEMAN, Mont. -

Montana State University says solar physicists will gather at the school Monday through Thursday for the 44th annual meeting of the Solar Physics Division of the American Astronomical Society.

The gathering is expected to draw up to 300 scientists from the United States, India, China and elsewhere to discuss discoveries and potential collaborations.

A free lecture open to the public is planned from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Bozeman's Emerson Cultural Center.

Tom Berger of the National Solar Observatory will explain how activity on the sun affects the Earth, a connection scientists discovered in the 1800s.
