What: Wildland Fire Detected: July 25 - Lightning caused
Location: Approx. 2 miles west of Pioneer Scenic Byway near Shoestring Creek on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Fire - Wise River Ranger District.
Narrative: The lightning caused Shoestring Fire on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, west of the Pioneer Scenic Byway near Shoestring Creek on the Wise River Ranger District was located Friday afternoon. Firefighters completed the fireline around the perimeter . Yesterday the fire showed minimal activity due to cloud cover and lower temperatures. All firefighters are spiked out near the fire to reduce hiking time to the fire.
Current Size: Estimated 15-20 acres Containment: 100%
Resources on Fire: There are currently 11 smokejumpers, 2- 20 person hotshot crews, 17 Beaverhead-Deerlodge firefighters 1 medium and 1 light helicopter assigned to the fire.
Today's Action: Today firefighters will continue to strengthen the fireline around the perimeter and mop up where appropriate. Eight of the smokejumpers will be released today with more resources tentatively being released tomorrow.
Weather: Today Scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Light and variable wind becoming northeast 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Tonight Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 49. East northeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming southeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
