KALISPELL, Mont. -

Weather conditions in the Flathead have halted the search for a missing duck hunter.

The yet-to-be-identified 65 year-old Kalispell man was last known to be out duck hunting near the Sportsman Bridge by Highway 82.

His kayak was found overturned on the water last Monday.

Crews were out on the water yesterday searching for the missing man, but they came back with nothing.

Flathead County Search and Rescue Coordinator Brian Heino says 6 ft. swells and high winds played a factor into calling off the search for the day.

"We're kind of concerned for the safety of our crews and the ability to run boats up and down the river,” said Heino.  “But we will continue looking at some areas to dive and look at more specifically with sonar.  Again that will probably be this following week but we're just kind of waiting to see what this weather system does."

Heino says the beginning of hunting season has caused search and rescue to be cautious on the amount of resources they are using in case they need to respond to a hunting accident in the area.

They plan to continue the search Monday morning.
