Search teams told us they still have not found a 65-year-old Kalispell duck hunter who went missing on the Flathead River Monday morning. The man's kayak was found overturned near the Sportsman's Bridge along Highway 82. His car was parked a short distance away at the Sportsman's fishing access.
North Valley Search and Rescue and Flathead Search and Rescue resumed water operations around noon Wednesday.
Search and Rescue Coordinator Brian Heino told NBC Montana teams are using side scan sonar to look for structural differences at the bottom of the river as well as items that may have fallen out of the kayak. Sonar is a slow process -- Heino explained they want good, quality images of the river bottom.
The search area may be expanded in the coming days.
"As soon as we feel confident in the coverage of the areas that are in the probability of detection we'll start moving either the upstream and the downstream and using the information that we have on where the kayak was located, the stream flows, etc.," said Heino.
Crews will continue their efforts until dusk and resume Thursday morning. The identity of the man has still not been released.
