BOZEMAN, Mont. -

The following is a press release from the Custer and Gallatin National Forests:

Major vandalism was discovered at the Natural Bridge Recreation Area south of Big Timber on the Custer and Gallatin National Forests on December 31, 2013.  U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement along with the Sweet Grass Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.

The vault riser and toilet seat were removed, concrete cracked, a window was broken out, and an attempt was made to pull one of the metal doors off the facility.  This is the second time vandalism has occurred at Natural Bridge this past year. In the earlier incident someone was successful in pulling one of the metal doors completely off the restroom building and discarded it into the Boulder River below.

The Yellowstone Ranger District has been forced to close a portion of the facility due to the extent of damages and initial estimates place the cost to repair the facility at several thousand dollars.

The Sweet Grass County Recreation Association (SGCRA) along with the Yellowstone Ranger District is offering up to a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this vandalism.  The SGCRA is adding to the reward in order to show their support and solidarity against destruction of public lands and facilities. Resource damage, theft, poaching and vandalism are serious crimes.
