A little restaurant in a small town in western Montana is getting national attention.
The Food Network's Restaurant Impossible is doing a makeover in Plains. It's the show, where world class chef Robert Irvine pinpoints problems, from menu to decor.
Heather's Country Kitchen is getting a whole new look.
Restaurant Impossible takes a failing restaurant, and with $10,000 and two days of hard work, starts trying to turn the business around.
No one involved with the project may do interviews. But the lunch crowd at the Plains Service Center down the street like what they see.
"When it's under good management," said Warren Wickum, "and good food, I'm confident it can make a good living."
To get so much work done in such a short time, everything is fast forward. Scores of local volunteers are helping. TV crews for the show are all over town.
It's great business for the Dew Duck Motel across the street from Heather's.
"It puts us on the map nationwide," said motel employee Beth Hartford.
Plains is in the middle of some of Montana's most beautiful country. Gorgeous scenery, fabulous hunting and fishing. But locals said its low on good paying jobs.
Lorie Hamilton runs a second hand store.
"A lot of people come in because they can't afford to buy new items," said Hamilton.
Townspeople said Plains has lost a good many young families. Young men, especially, who travel east to the Bakken Oil Fields.
"There's a bunch from Plains in North Dakota," said Derek Von Heeder. "I got two brothers there.
There are a lot of retired people, however, living in Plains.
Townspeople see Restaurant Impossible's latest project as a beacon that will attract tourists and people from all over the valley.
