Railway, city officials dedicate Whitefish Landing
Whitefish officials cut the ribbon on a new canoe and kayak landing on the Whitefish River Thursday morning. The dedication of Whitefish Landing marks the completion of a 5-year cleanup project between the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and the city.
BNSF started the cleanup after the Environmental Protection Agency discovered contaminants in the Whitefish River from a nearby fueling facility. A $25,000 grant from the BNSF Foundation made Whitefish Landing a possibility.
"Over the last 100 years we've been a proud member of this community," said BNSF's Allen Stegman. "We hope this donation will also show a path for the future of being a proud community member for years to come for the enjoyment of the river."
Whitefish Landing is located on the Whitefish Pedestrian and Bicycle Trail, a short walk from the corner of Railway Street and Miles Avenue in Whitefish.
