It won't be home to the new Missoula College but plans to develop part of the Riverfront Triangle in downtown Missoula are rolling along.
In August Mayor Engen threw in the idea to put Missoula College on the city owned land on Orange and Front Streets. That’s off the table as the campus will go up on East Broadway.
But that hasn’t halted developers from moving forward with plans to turn the area into a hotel and convention center with the possibility of retail and restaurants.
About six acres is what developers, Hotel Fox LLC., have their eyes on. An area some say could change the dynamic of downtown Missoula.
“It's a great piece of real estate,” said Mayor Engen. “It's a great extension of downtown Missoula.”
It will still take a lot to get there. Part of that, securing more than just the city owned 1.87 acres.
City Council gave Hotel Fox LLC., permission to put that are on hold until January 2014, while they work out a deal to secure the rest of the area from Saint Patrick Hospital.
“Some folks have to come up with some partnership agreements,” Engen said.
Ideally in January they’ll present a development plan to City Council. Jim McLeod with the Farran Group, part of Hotel Fox LLC., said the group is currently working to finalize a development plan.
No word on what type of restaurants or retailers area interested in the area.
