MISSOULA, Mont. -

Money found outside of a Missoula church has been returned to its owner.

Champ Edmunds and another deacon found a backpack filled with $12,000 cash, and some cell phones at Journey Christian Fellowship. They found the bag outside of a door downstairs.

Wednesday, Missoula Police Department Public Information Officer Travis Welsh said the money was returned to the owner. Edmunds was happy to hear the news.

“I think we all ought to live by the golden rule and do to others what you would want them to do to you,” Edmunds said Wednesday. “If I'd lost a bag, even if it only had $12 in it I would hope that somebody would return it.”

Police haven't released any other information about who the money belonged to or why the person had it.
