Police arrest suspect in UM rape case, judge sets $50,000 bail

MISSOULA, Mont. - A man is in custody in connection with a rape reported by a University of Montana student.

Timothy Schwartz, 18, was arrested late Tuesday afternoon after being interviewed by police. He was a University of Montana student.

Schwartz appeared in Missoula County Justice Court Wednesday on a sexual intercourse without consent charge.

Police said a 19-year-old female student at UM reported she was raped in a dorm room in Jesse Hall early Monday morning. The woman reported she knew the suspect in the case. She suffered minor injuries.

Wednesday, Judge John Odlin set bail at $50,000 and told Schwartz he's not allowed to have contact with the alleged victim in the case and is restrained from the University of Montana campus.
