MISSOULA, Mont -

A young Darby area man died, and his friend suffered major injuries in a head on crash near Hamilton.

It happened about 5:30 Thursday morning, on East Side Highway near the Fairgrounds Road intersection.

That's just east of Hamilton High School.

Montana Highway Patrol said the 19-year-old man was a passenger in a Toyota Tacoma when it crashed head on into a Northwest Energy truck.

Witnesses said the 21-year-old Darby area driver was speeding, and crossed the center line.

MHP said alcohol was a main factor in the crash.

Neither young man was wearing a seat belt.

The utility truck driver was treated and released at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital.

The Toyota's driver is at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
