MISSOULA, Mont. -

A rough start to the Memorial Day weekend as a three-car accident claims the life of a western Montana woman.

Highway Patrol troopers tell NBC Montana that the accident happened on Highway 93 north of Missoula between Arlee and Ravalli.

Troopers tell us a 72-year-old woman from Arlee was headed south at about 3 p.m. Friday when her vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a semi tractor-trailer. Debris from the collision hit a third vehicle. The wreckage completely blocked both lanes of traffic for hours.

The 72-year-old woman was killed in the collision. The driver of the semi-truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to a Missoula hospital for treatment.

The driver of the third vehicle was uninjured.
