1943: Film producer, screenwriter and actor Don Simpson (left), best known for producing hit films such as "Flashdance," "Beverly Hills Cop," "Top Gun" and "The Rock" with his producing partner Jerry Bruckheimer (right), is born in Seattle, Washington. Simpson, who also briefly served as president of production at Paramount Pictures in the early 1980s, died of drug-related heart failure at age 52 on Jan. 19, 1996.
