1935: Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Robinson, who won two World Series with the Baltimore Orioles and was the first black manager in major-league history, is born in Beaumont, Texas. He hit for a career batting average of .294 with 2,943 hits and 586 home runs. He is the only player to win league MVP honors in both the National and American leagues and he won the batting Triple Crown in 1966. He managed the Cleveland Indians during the last two years of his playing career and went on to manage the San Francisco Giants, the Baltimore Orioles and the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals after retiring as a player.
