Police in Missoula have released the name of a 23-year-old man who died after being shot while he and an acquaintance were handling and talking about a semi-automatic handgun.

Officers say the firearm belonged to the victim, Chad Goodman.
A witness to the shooting called police at 12:05 a.m. Sunday.
Police Sgt. Scott Pastian said no charges have been filed against the acquaintance, but until the investigation is complete, he isn't comfortable calling the shooting an accident.
Pastian said the man who was holding the gun when it went off said he didn't know it was loaded.
