New director named at Missoula County Fairgrounds
Three days into the Western Montana Fair a new manager is making his presence known.
Current Fairgrounds Director Steve Earl told Missoula County Commissioners months ago that he intended to leave for personal reasons. Earl stayed on to get this year’s fair off the ground and now he’s preparing to pass the baton.
NBC Montana caught up with the new director, Todd Garrett, who’s making a move from Whitefish to Missoula to fill the position.
Thursday afternoon Garrett was busy touring the 48 acres of the fairgrounds that he will be managing.
Garrett tells us he has years of experience managing land for Montana Parks and Recreation and also working with the public.
He says he’s excited about making future improvements to the facilities at the fairgrounds.
“I'd like to continue the efforts to improve the facilities at the fairgrounds which is already underway,” he tells us. “It’s all part of the enhancement and development plan and it's something I’m really excited about.”
Garrett says his first goal is to reach out to the community to get their thoughts on how it can be improved.
“There are incredible opportunities here and a lot of people are interested,” said Garrett. “I think it's going to be neat to meld everyone together, all of the partners and groups that are interested, and see where we can take the fairgrounds.”
Garrett will spend the next few weeks training for his new job before he fully takes over the position.
