Montana Supco denies sentence reduction in murder
The Montana Supreme Court has denied a petition filed by a 52-year-old state prison inmate seeking a reduced sentence for his role in the 1987 kidnapping, torture and killing of a Miles City man.
The Billings Gazette reports the court issued its ruling on Tuesday.
Vernon Kills On Top is serving two life sentences for his involvement in the death of Marty Etchemendy, who was kidnapped from Miles City in October 1987 and killed near Gillette, Wyo.
Kills On Top has argued that he was not at the scene of the murder, but received the same sentence as his brother, Lester Kills On Top, who was there.
A year ago, a three-member sentence review board said they didn't find any evidence that the sentences were excessive.
