MISSOULA, Mont. -

Big Sky Country's known for its big game, but that also puts Montana near the top of a not so enviable list.

New numbers out from State Farm Insurance show Montana ranks number two in vehicle - deer collisions.

That's up from the number six ranking just two years ago.

That means, if you're a driver in Montana, there's a 1 in 65 chance you'll hit a deer in the next year.

The national average is 1 in 174.

West Virginia tops the list at a 1 in 41 chance of a deer collision, and Iowa, South Dakota, and Pennsylvania round out the top five.

The data also indicates October is the second most likely month for deer collisions, and November ranks first.
